I found a source on the web that really makes creating transparent favicons a breeze.
The website is called “Dagon Design“. First, open Adobe Photoshop or any other graphic editing software you use. Second, make a 34×34 image of the image you wish to be used for the favicon. Third, take the background off the image (areas you wish to be transparent), then save it as a “.gif” image (IMPORTANT). Fourth, upload it to Dagon Design’s online favicon generator here. Fifth, save it to your computer, and then rename the file to “favicon.ico”. Sixth, upload it to the “root directory” of your website. Seventh, add the following code to the header of your website so that your browser knows to look for the favicon that you uploaded: <link rel="icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"> Note* Where you see "http://example.com/favicon.ico" should be the location to where your favicon is located at your website. That’s it! You now have cool transparent favicon.
